#ReelOnHai: Karachi’s Local Art Scene!!

“ART is anything you can get away with”. Even though as a person, i relate to this quote with all my heart, yet there are plenty of people out there that take their Art very seriously. Few of those people are the artists of karachi who went on hand-in-hand with the Karachi Biennale Trust and Pakistan Cables to give Karachi a FABULOUS makeover by turning old wooden cable reels into art installations!

Anyone who personally witnessed these amazing art installations in person is aware how much intricate detailing went into producing every single one of these masterpieces, which were later displayed and photographed separately to combine all the installations into one super amazing coffee table book! How cool is that!?

It all strated last year in july when Pakistan Cables and Karachi Biennale Trust signed an MoU to collaborate on a oublic outreach project called “Reel On Hai” to beautify Karachi through recycling and repurposing the wooden cable reels! Through the ReelOnHai project, plenty of very talented artists, designers, and architects were able to come together to make ART. For the project, 100 old Wooden Reels were provided by Karachi Cables and since now they are all transformed into priceless beauties, they’ve been installed all over karachi to instigate the love of art amongst the people of karachi. Some of these locations includes KU, IBA, several schools, KPT, churches, etc.

It’s not everyday that artists are celebrated here, in pakistan, and when brands go out of their way to promote artists/designers/architects and the purpose of recycling and refurbishing, it’s absolutely heartwarming and delightful to see such sight. Kudos to everyone involved in bringing us these little joys of life and making the city of lights a little more beautiful than it already was.

If only i could get one of these beauties to display them at my home, or better yet, make an art installation of my own from scratch(from empty cable reels obvs). Life=made. Well, a girl can dream.

BOOK REVIEW: Kill The Boy Band // Goldy Moldavsky

If you’ve been around the twitter-sphere and the internet in general for as long as I have, you would know what are FANGIRLS and how these notorious pupil are known for their bad rep. (And for a good reason too). In general, Fan Girls are obsessive about pretty much anything and everything related to their respective Fandoms. Some fan girls are genuine well-wishers of their idols, but others take everything wayyyy overboard and literally can turn into anyone’s worst nightmare.

The book KILL THE BOY BAND by Goldy Moldavsky is a very interestingly hilarious YA novel, and a cautious tale of a couple of fangirls and their adventure of following a boyband to such an extent, that it quickly turns into a murder mystery.

Goldy brilliantly portrayed the in-depth characters of the obsessive teens and their behavioral tendencies amidst the unexpected situation where the girls mistakenly abduct one of their oh-so-loved band THE RUPERTS’s member, Rupert P, who in reality was nothing but the most hated dead weight in the band. Things further escalates when the girls find out that the abducted member of the band choked himself to death whilst trying to break free from the chair that he was tied to.

Further into the book, the mystery gets further complicated of whether Rupert P died on his own terms or was he killed by one of the girls, or was it an actual case of auto erotic asphyxiation (or so thought by his band mates when they find his body in their room, which the girls left there on purpose to save themselves).

And even amidst the shitstorm around, can a fangirl actually hope to meet her favorite band member in hopes of getting her happily-ever-after with him after all? Well, a girl can dream. This hilarious tale of hysteric fangirls, an unexpected abduction, an obsessive fake girlfriend, a murder, and a whole bunch of police arrests will make you want to take a step back from the world of crazy fandoms.

In All, I really enjoyed the read since I was a fangirl myself and I could totally relate to a lot of the stuff in the book, which is nothing but embarrassing for the Now-Adult me. dontjudgethankss :p (Take a good look at the picture below and take a guess who i was crazily in love with a long time back.)

BOOK REVIEW: One Of Us Is Lying // Karen M. McManus

Since the day my exams ended, I’ve been on a bookscapade to read as much as I can before I dive right back into my work mode slash medical school! In the past month alone, I read Four books and I’m already onto my fifth one! (Which by my standard is a LOT, bcz yuno me, lazy and busy, but always hoarding books).

During one of my escapes before finals hit me, I bought two books from LIBERTY BOOKS at Dolmen Mall Clifton. The store itself is such a treat that I had to limit myself to only two books in order to save my ever-declining bank account. On that trip, I bought Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, and One Of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus.

Moving on to the review, I think both the books were such a huge treat for me in their own respective genres. One Of Us is Lying is a YoungAdult Murder Mystery novel, revolving around HighSchoolers from BayView Highschool. THE MINUTE I PICKED THIS BOOK UP, IT WAS HARD TO PUT IT DOWN!! Addictive to the fullest, full of anticipation and will get anyone HOOKED!!

(Trigger Warning: the story contains death, suicide, substance abuse and similar subjects. Spoiler Alerts)

The books starts off simple. Five students in detention, from very different backgrounds, all have secrets that can potentially ruin their lives, all in detention because they got caught with phones in their backpacks that weren’t theirs. Amongst them is ONE very twisted sociopath who runs a gossip app called ABOUT THAT, that have messed up students’ lives previously, and was going to continue. UNTIL the sociopath, Simon, chokes up on water from the school’s tap, and goes through a sudden anaphylactic allergic reactions. The rest of the four in detention hurries to find Epinephrine Pens (EpiPen) in the nurses’ office, except, someone stole the entire emergency EpiPen stash. Even though the Paramedics reach fairly quickly, Simon doesn’t survive. What looked like an allergic reaction and an accident, was now being treated as a suspected homicide and a crime scene, the 4 in detention being the Murder Suspects!!

The Story of the four continues and how they cope from their respective secrets that were tearing them down from the inside. Not only were some of them morally wrong, but also illegal at an extent. Just as they thought after Simon’s death they could bury their secrets, a series of anonymous tumblr posts starts getting published, from the perspective of one of the pupil in detention. When the anon on tumblr also publishes the post Simon wrote before his death about the four in detention, things go ugly pretty fast. Now everyone is equipped with a Lawyer at all times, But also on the lowkey, the ‘BAYVIEW FOUR’ (The name local tv gave the suspects) are trying to solve the mystery on their own, because to them things didn’t add up the minute they all walked into detention. Simon himself was not shy of keeping his sociopathic abilities to himself. Pretty soon, his 4Chan threads of pure hate and terror and his comments starts surfacing and people begin to realize this just might not be a murder after all.

Will the police believe the Bayview Four? Did one of them actually kill Simon? Is One of them Lying? Or are they all are in it together? The big reveal certainly did not shock me, but did give me a sense of relief. At least one rightful arrest made in the book gave me satisfaction that can last a lifetime (overstatement but okay).

I think Karen M McManus did a brilliant job in portraying such clear character descriptions and their own personal accounts of what happened. At least this way, the readers knew what was going on inside the brains of all the 4 in detention. Plus even though the book is around 400 paged, not for one second I thought it was a drag. A job well done, in all honesty! Now I really want to read more of Karen’s works and get into the whole YA Murder mystery genre! Y'all NEED to read this book ASAP! I'm not even kidding!

BIODERMA Sensibio H20: #TheMiracleWater

Y’all! I’m here again after a well-deserved mini vacation! And during my mini vacays, I did everything one could imagine to do during the tough work schedule and the medical school woes! I EXPERIMENTED LOAD WITH MAKEUP AND READ SO MANY BOOKS!! Review of everything will be up periodically, since y’know how I’m all lazy and stuff.

Okay, during my time off, I was buying all sorts of makeup and books, and amidst all the hauls, I was out and about the online store to buy some sort of micellar water since I was almost out of the tree house makeup wipes. Then obviously the only brand that popped up everywhere was BIODERMA! I literally read a dozen of really amazing reviews on bioderma micellar water and other bioderma products! And fortunately enough, I was sent the product itself to review it!

I’ll keep it short here. It was amazing. Just a couple of drops of micellar water on a cotton pad right off completely wiped off my makeup in one swipe! And despite how stubborn the gel eyeliners are, micellar water was able to get it completely off of my eyes without much effort. So in all, THIS PRODUCT WORKS! Will give it 10/10!

The Bioderma Sensibio H2O not only works as a makeup remover, but also helps in removing the dirt and impurities out of your skin, and helps in moisturizing the skin too! Meaning, after we’re done removing all the mush off our faces, our skin will not dry off like the surface of the Sahara desert, but will stay soft, supple and hydrated throughout! So, yeah, it is called the #MiracleWater for an obvious reason!

This review is genuine from the heart and mind and honestly, I’m honored that Bioderma sent me their product to review! As soon as I’m completely done with my first bioderma micellar water bottle, I’ll be sure to load up some more because a good makeup remover is a must for every woman’s vanity to keep the skin healthy, fresh and beautiful! Soon, will try out more products from bioderma and other stuff and keep you guys posted! So this is me, signing off!

BEAUTY JUNKIE: Dermacol Make-up Cover Foundation REVIEW!

So I got my hands on these babies a while back after all the rage on the internet and after Jeffree Star’s review, and HOLY MOTHER OF COVERAGE!!! Let’s get straight to the point. Dermacol makeup  cover foundation is soooo godly pigmented, that it concealed my entireeee soullll and existence!

The brand is from Prague, and they have a pretty good line of several other makeup products that people from Hollywood have been using since quite a while now. 

With this, there’s absolutely no need of any sort of concealer or corrector what so ever. Just a TAD drop of foundation and everything just falls in place. It's super blendable and creamy at first, but once you set it with powder and setting spray, it won’t move. ANDDD, it almost a tiny bit luminous, which is automatically a gift from god himself, so it's basically a win win!! 

A bit heavy at first on the skin, but settles in a while and becomes seamless. Waterproof AF, SPF 30, HypoAllergenic, for ALL SKIN TYPES, not expensive at all, and sooo amazing that one won't go back to mere low coverage foundations at all! 10/10 would buy again!

The formula may look shady since heavy liquid foundations are something nobody prefers at first but honestly speaking, Yes it was heavy whilst I was applying it with a damp beauty blender, and even after I powdered it and baked my face, but after like a minute or so, idk what’s up with the formula that it settles into your pores and fine lines and evens out your whole skin texture. It’s pretty hard to describe, but this is a product I would definitely order for my clients as well. JUST LOOK AT IT!!

I ordered 3 different shades because I wasn’t sure which one would match my soul, and the kind people at dermacol sent two more different sample tubes to try out the colors. I bought in shades 208, 210, 215. Only one of them actually matched my skin tone and the rest I kept to use as either contouring shades, and for my sister. These are in fact, much better than paint sticks, since some stick foundations are HEAVY on the skin even after giving it a much needed time, and blending requires much more effort, hence inducing micro-exfoliation of the skin and of course, leading to dry patches and uneven looking un-healthy skin.

I was a bit skeptic at first to buy the dermacol foundation tbh because how small the tube was. But since you only basically need a drop or two to cover your entire existence, the price point ain't that bad. :') I got mine from an e-store. Deets in the picture below. 

Dermacol have a wide range of shades, but not as specific as other brands, so do your research prior to ordering and try to order a couple of choices of samples with your chosen shades, so you could keep the samples for future references. Also, this foundation comes off like DREAM with a makeup wipe. Since it is waterproof, it needs a makeup cleanser or some good ass wipes to get everything off!

RoohAfza ft. The Spirit of Eid With Family! #RoohAfzaEidMubarak

Growing up in South Asian households, we’re always taught the value of family and the significance and the importance of our blood relations. The cycle is endless, starting infinity into our ancestors and impeding upon us, and hopefully into our next generation when one day we pass our children the message of respect and love. 

Speaking from personal experience, there are very limited family relations that I love unconditionally apart from my immediate family (parents and siblings), and those include grandparents and my khala/mamoos. Unfortunately, I was never able to know my paternal grandparents since they passed away before I could make sense of this world, and only my nanno remained with us! She’s a beautiful beautiful soul and to this day I pray for her long healthy life and will continue to do so since she’s the only grandparent I have and we are damn lucky to have her in our lives!

Just a couple of days back, the new TVC of RoohAfza was aired on the teles that showed the relationship between a grandparent and his grandchild, and of course, a very subtle product placement that showed the child using RoohAfza in a supposed dessert of a sort for his grandfather, and later getting EIDIIIII in return. I mean, if that’s not a win-win situation, then I don’t know what is! Y’all can watch the TVC here!

Speaking on a marketing based level, and a south-asian-morale-level, brands that incorporate family orientation, love, and respect in their marketing strategies are more likely to be noticed by regular awaam of the nation, since we all DON’T always go for brands that use marketing tactics like a sudden flash mob scenario on the streets while dancing to an annoying tune and just plain bad product placement overall. So, Kudos to the brand for pulling yet another successful one. I can for sure vouch that my EID is literally incomplete without my Nanno and other family! Even though I didnt get to make a Roohafza filled sugary dessert for Nanno, but I still got my EIDI from her, with lots of loveee! 

And I think it is necessary to mention here that Hamdard Pakistan is the only brand that celebrated the Islamic calendar Independence Day of Pakistan on the 27^th ramzan and released a heartwarming tribute video to thank everyone who contributed in making PAKISTAN a reality! Another hats off to the brand! Y’all can check out the tribute video here!

Welcoming Ramzan with RoohAfza! #RoohAfzaRamzanMubarak

Being a part of the Pakistani Muslim clad, one thing I enjoy the most in the holy month of ramzan is the unity that brings all the locals along together to celebrate the month with love and prosperity at the utmost. Families come together for Suhoor and Iftar daily, making not only their bonds stronger with eachother, but strengthening their bonds with the Almighty himself! And not to mention all the delicacies ramzan brings with itself right after the imprisonment of SATAN, e.g Samosays, pakorays, Khajla Pheni, and of course, the hero of the Iftaari, ROOH AFZA!

Swear to god, there hasn’t been a single Ramzan where this godly red drink hasn’t been around to pump us up right after iftar, and get our sugar levels GOINGGGG! But lucky for us, RoohAfza’s are not only limited for the holy month, but throughout the year, us desis literally enjoy this lovely drink on random occasions, like the Majlisaen and Sabeels (drink drive) in the month of muharram, Crazy sunny hot days when the sun seems to be sucking out our souls with bendy straws, and whenever there are family feasts where the adults take the charge to make refreshing drinks plus the countless dessert items that can be made from RoohAfzas!

This obsession with RoohAfza is not only limited for Pakistanis, but the people of subcontinent, and desis around the world, since Hamdard exports RoohAfza to other countries like The United States of America, Canada, KSA, UAE, etc! Every now and then, RoohAfza is pulled out of the grocery aisle and sent straight into our kitchens to give us those homely feels wherever we are on the globe!

Growing up with this beautiful godly concoction, we can surely relate RoohAfza and our family traditions connected to it! The elderly, the family the children, everyone have their own personal story turned into memory that they can remember and cherish forever. And this is the essence of love of that RoohAfza incorporated in their latest TVC!.

Every Redmi 4X will ship with MIUI 8 which builds in several technology breakthroughs such as being able to clone apps and manage multiple accounts on the same phone. This means that users can have two instances of a messaging app on the same phone that correspond to different accounts, removing the inconvenience of having to log in and out on the same app. With MIUI 8, users can also split their smartphones into two accounts. This means that a different password or fingerprint can allow you to access a different home screen entirely, with independent apps and data.
